James William Blair II, 87, husband of Jane (Williams) Blair of 1194 Lyle Avenue passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Blair was born on February 14, 1929 in Savannah, Georgia, a son of the late M. Buford and Margaret Elizabeth (Clark) Blair.
James was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Gideons International since 1976. He was in the National Guard for six years and was a retired engineer with Remington Arms. Mr. Blair was an athlete while in college, and he enjoyed golf, playing bridge, Virginia Tech Football and was a member of the Highty-Tighties Band and Hokie Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Blair was preceded in death by two brothers, Buford Blair and Bob Blair.
Mr. Blair was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-six years, is a son, James W. Blair III and his wife Jane (Good) Blair of Elkton; two daughters, Deborah J. White and her husband Dennis of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Kathryn Faye Waldhelm and her husband Tom of Santa Maria, California; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sixteen nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 in Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Bobby Campbell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Ralph Harris, Russ Shoop, Carl Hinkle, Tom Baugher, Rupert Chandler and Tommy Benson.
