Jackie David "Jack" Burgess, 79, husband of Sue M. (Polk) Burgess of 50 Marble Drive, and formerly of Staunton, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Brightview of Staunton.
Mr. Burgess was born on January 15, 1939 in Kistler, West Virginia, a son of the late Jack and Virginia (Hurley) Burgess.
Jack was an active member of Linden Heights Baptist Church where he had served on the Building and Grounds Committee, he was a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class and the Brotherhood at Linden Heights. He retired from Litton Industries in 2000 after 32 years of service as a machinist, and "Jack" enjoyed working on cars, tinkering with his many tools, his antique car, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Burgess and a sister, Irene Boyd.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years is a son, Jeffrey David Burgess and his wife Mary of Woodbridge, Virginia; a special granddaughter, Hannah Faith Dodson; two sisters, Brenda Haga of Florida, and Bonnie Burgess of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Dale Day of Beckley, West Virginia; a number of nieces and nephews; and his special pet cat, "Precious."
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Pastor David A. Anderson. The family will receive friends following the service or the residence at other times.
Burial will be private in Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, West Virginia.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Seekers Sunday School Class.
