Obituary

God saw that she was tired and called his angel home.
Isabell Rosetta (Smith) Carpenter, 95, of Swoope, departed from this life on, Tuesday, September 25, 2018, in Augusta Health, Fishersville.
Mrs. Carpenter was born on June 11, 1923 in Christian (Swoope), Virginia, a daughter of the late William and Mariah (Shelton) Smith.
Isabell was a faithful member of Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Staunton, where she served in various positions. She also attended Miracle of Faith Seventh Day Adventist Church in Waynesboro, where she became the Church Mother. Isabell was educated in Chicago, Illinois, where she received training in the Nursing profession, and for many years she was employed as a nurse at Western State Hospital and Squirrel Hill Nursing Home in Churchville. Isabell loved to read the Bible, write poetry, garden, and watch the shopper networks on TV. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands: Mr. Henry Smith and Mr. Savoy L. Carpenter, Sr., Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by five children: Roger A. Smith, Herbert L. Smith, Elizabeth Ann (Smith) Jackson, Marie A. (Smith) Coleman, and Savoy L. Carpenter, Jr., and six siblings: James, Bernell, Archie, Wadell, Mae, and Geneva.
Left to cherish her many memories are her beloved children, three sons: Henry V. Smith, Sr. and his wife Brenda of Pemberton, New Jersey, Larry W. Carpenter, Sr. and his wife Joan, and Roscoe A. Carpenter, Sr. and his wife Josephine, all of Swoope; a daughter, Isabelle J. (Carpenter) Brummer and her husband Chauncey of Fayetteville, Arkansas; ten grandchildren: Michelle Jackson, John Jackson, Terri Gerald, Roger Smith, Larry A. Carpenter, Jr., Laselle (Carpenter) Wilson, Roscoe Carpenter, Jr., Savoy Brummer, Chris Brummer, and Savoy Carpenter, III; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church members and friends.
Special appreciation is given to her devoted caregivers, daughter-in-law, Joan Carpenter and special friend, Loretta Stewart.
A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joseph P. Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Carpenter's grandchildren.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1203 Windsor Lane, Staunton, Virginia 24401.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, is in charge of her arrangements.
