Irvin Thomas Rosen, 95, widower of Melba Louise (Hampton) Rosen of 530 Cold Springs Road, Stuarts Draft and formerly of Middlebrook passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Rosen was born October 29, 1915 in McKinley, a son of the late Finley Howard and Sarah Virginia (Hildebrand) Rosen.
Mr. Rosen was very devoted to his wife of seventy-two years and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was a life member of McKinley United Methodist Church and a member of the Middlebrook Ruritan Club where he was very active for many years. He was retired from VSDB after 32 years of service, where he taught vocational wood-working, clock repair and drafting and was a Fellow in the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was a master craftsman in clock building and repair.
Mr. Rosens most proud accomplishment was his invention of the lost art of the Browns Ripple Molding. He was also remembered as care-taker of the Thomas Jefferson clock at Monticello.
In addition to his parents and his wife Mr. Rosen was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Reed and Evelyn Rosen and a great-great-grandson, Conner Lee Campbell.
Mr. Rosen was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy H. Rosen and his wife Peggy of Staunton and Jerry E. Rosen and his wife Joyce of Stuarts Draft; four grandchildren, Scott Rosen and his wife Lisa, Debra Grove and husband Chris, Sarah Fitzgerald and her husband Jeff and Chris Rosen and his wife Pam; ten great-grandchildren, Jennifer Campbell and her husband Brian, Michael Campbell, Beth Fitzgerald, Katie Fitzgerald, Dylan Fitzgerald, Jared Rosen, Jacob Rosen, Aiden Grove, Austin Grove and Locklin Rosen; two nieces, Joyce Bilek of FL and Faye Reed of Charlottesville.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Donald Long and Bud Hammond.
Burial will be private in the McKinley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8:00 p.m. this evening, Sunday, December 19, 2010 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence of Jerry and Joyce Rosen, 530 Cold Springs Road, Stuarts Draft
Active pallbearers will be Chris Grove, Jeff Fitzgerald, Chris Rosen, Scott Rosen, Michael Campbell and Mark Kersey.
It is suggested those desiring to make memorial contributions to the McKinley Methodist, Cemetery Fund, 1009 McKinley Road, Middlebrook, VA 24459.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
