Iris Dee Reed, 75, of 26 South Washington Street went to her heavenly home Thursday, December 6, 2012 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Mrs. Reed was born on September 15, 1937 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Jesse Roy and Eulalia (Rife) Reed.

Iris had worked for C\u0026P Telephone Company, she was retired from Western State Hospital after twenty-three years and later worked as an independent contractor thru the Valley Community Service Board for sixteen years. She was a member of the Staunton Church of Christ, she enjoyed the Augusta Christian Singles Group, working crossword puzzles and dinning out and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Lee Reed and Stephen Ray Allen Reed and a special foster child, Susie P. Cruse.

Surviving is a daughter, Pamela (Alfonsi) Dixey and her husband Robert of Fairfield; a brother, Gary Reed of Savanna, GA; two grandchildren, Cassidy Nicole Dixey and her fianc Zac Montgomery and Christy Angela Dixey; two sisters-in-law, Debbie G. Reed and Shirley A. Reed; special friends, Linda Bocock, Nancy DePriest and Wanda Staton; and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 in the Staunton Church of Christ by Pastors Barry Creasy and Richard Anderson.

Entombment will follow the service at Augusta Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012 in the Staunton Church of Christ at 333 Churchville Avenue, Staunton.

Active pallbearers are Robert Reed, Curtis Reed, Roy Reed, Austin Reed, Taylor Reed, Stephen William Jesse Reed and Terry Simmons.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Staunton Church of Christ, 333 Churchville Avenue, Staunton VA 24401.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Todd Wolfe, Dr. Richard Miller, the nurses and staff at UVA Hope Center and the caring nurses and staff of the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.
