Irene (Harlow) Trainum's Obituary

Irene Alto (Harlow) Trainum, 96, widow of Hankins Trainum of 1900 Hillsmere Lane and formerly of Craigsville passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Envoy of Staunton.

Mrs. Trainum was born May 12, 1916 in Augusta Springs, a daughter of the late Harry Edward and Millie (Miller) Harlow.

Irene was the Valedictorian for the 1935 graduating class of Craigsville High School and was a graduate of Dunsmore Business College. She retired in 1998 at the age of 82 years old from Stillwater Mills where she had worked in Payroll and Personnel for fifty-seven years. Irene was a faithful member of the Craigsville Presbyterian Church, past president of the Womens Joy Circle, she taught Sunday School, was Clerk of the Session for thirteen years, an elder of the church and was known to send cards and make calls to those who were home bound. She was also a member of the Craigsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Goshen Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and was known as the Lady in Red.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Trainum was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Edward Harlow, Albert Hankins Harlow and a sister, Eloise (Harlow) Via.

Surviving is a brother, Harold Vernon Harlow and his wife Lorraine (Gilbert) of Staunton; five nieces, Jean Hazlett, Charlotte Powers, Linda Smith, Lawana Richardson and Martha Fitzgerald; four nephews, Gerald Harlow, Frank Harlow, Ronnie Harlow and Barry Powers; and a special friend, Delores Minter.

A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Craigsville Presbyterian Church by Pastor M. Olivia Haney.

Burial will follow in the Craigsville Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

Active pallbearers will be the Men of the Craigsville Presbyterian Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies of the Church.

It is suggested those desiring may make memorial contributions to Craigsville Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 178, Craigsville, VA 24430.
