Hubert Lyle "Gertie" Brown, 93, of Jericho Road, Fishersville, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Brown was born in Fishersville, Virginia on March 31, 1929, a son of the late Charles Monroe Brown, Sr. and Elsie Lee (Monroe) Brown.
Gertie was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church and retired from Staunton City Parks and Recreation as a groundskeeper. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed fishing, watching planes and chewing tobacco.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles M. Brown, Jr., Theodore Brown, Thomas Brown, Maynard Brown, Boyd "Buck" Brown, and Chuck Monroe; four sisters, Vera Brown, Mildred Bower, Alice Staton, and Carolyn Brown; and Billy Bower, Ronnie Brown, Danny Clatterbaugh, Eric Brown, Hannah Fauber and Alec Fauber.
Surviving, are three brothers, Leonard Brown of Texas, Lester Brown of Headwaters, and Gary Brown of Greenville; three sisters, Joyce Clatterbaugh of Churchville, Dorothy Hancock Hall of Staunton, and Elizabeth "Liz" Little of Fishersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Luke B. Smith, Mr. Phillip Brown, and Mr. Cameron Little. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Staton, Brent Brown, Curt Hancock, Steve Little, Mikie Little, Jr., Phillip Brown, and Paul Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Brown, Carl Staton, Mickey Staton, Chris Brown, Blake Brown, Randy Brown, Danny Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a sincere "Thank you" to the staff at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, especially Susan, Tonya, Jenn, Gracie, Penny and Dr. Christopher Heck.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
