Howard Calvin Strickler, 88, was born July 11, 1931 and passed away peacefully Friday, July 19, 2019 at home. Son of the late Elbert and Oneida Strickler of Luray, VA; he retired from Philip Morris as an Accountant in 1988. He proudly served in the US Marines during the Korean conflict. He was quite active in the Staunton community. He served as the Treasurer for the Red Cross and was a former member of Kiwanis International. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as Treasurer for many years. He was also past Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Chairman of the Pulpit Search Committee, and served several times as Finance Committee Chairman. He was involved in three building programs of the church and was extremely proud of his Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Howard was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Willis R. Strickler and D. Eugene Strickler.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Hale Strickler. They have one daughter, Rhonda Strickler Long and her husband John Walton Long of DeLand, FL. They have three special grandchildren, Haley Elizabeth Long and Valery Myers Long of Orlando, FL and Colby Burnette Long and his wife, Ansley Webb Long of Nashville, TN. Also a special nephew, Scott Edward Strickler and his wife, Ann Robins Strickler of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his brothers, E. Carroll Strickler of Franklin VA and Thomas M. Strickler of Shenandoah, VA. and his sister-in-law Charlotte S. Strickler of Roanoke, VA. He also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 24th at 11:00 am.
