Obituary

Homer Miller Western, Jr., 91, husband of Phyllis Lucille (Nuckoles) Western of 29 Old Laurel Hill Road, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 in the Kings Daughters Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Western was born on March 3, 1927 in Flint, Michigan a son of the late Homer Miller Western, Sr. and Lena Blanche (Landes) Western Gardner.

Homer was an active and faithful member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, he was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class, a member of the Church Choir and taught the Youth Sunday School Class for a number of years. Mr. Western was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII, he was a member of the Verona VFW Post 10826 and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Homer retired from the Augusta County Schools in 1992 as an electrician, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with his family and cooking.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Western was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Virginia Reed.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years of which Homer was so very proud of, is a son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. Mike Western and his wife Glenda of Mt. Sidney; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Faye Joy Hoover and her husband Cliff of Verona; a brother, Clinton Western of Vinton, VA; a half-brother, Jack Gardner of Hershey, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Polly Oaks of Harrisonburg and Dorothy Greisler of Mount Airy, Maryland; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory or other times at the residence.

A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. William Bill Davis. A Celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the church with a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
