Obituary

Homer Lee Maddox, 91, husband of Juanita Catherine (Varner) Maddox, of Staunton, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Birch Gardens of Staunton.

Mr. Maddox was born in Augusta County, Virginia on August 25, 1931, a son of the late Conley Ferdinand Maddox and Irene Gertrude (Fitzgerald) Maddox.

Homer was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was self-employed with Homer Maddox Welding and Hauling. He enjoyed fishing and coon hunting.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by four brothers, James Maddox, Thurman Maddox, Carl Maddox and his wife Mathilda, and Ernest Maddox and his wife Bonnie; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Maddox; and a brother-in-law, Sidney Parrish.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of seventy-two years, is a son, Glenn Maddox and his wife Vickie of Swoope; a daughter, Judy McIlwee and her husband Gene of Staunton; a brother, Lonnie Maddox of Waynesboro; a sister, Margarette Parrish of Sanford, NC; a sister-in-law, Irma Maddox of TX; six grandchildren, Kimberly Cash and her husband Sam of Raphine, Steven Maddox and his wife Chelby of Raphine, Megan McIlwee of Staunton, Jason McIlwee and his wife Katie of Lyndhurst, Casey Fitzgerald and his wife Michelle and Kelly Williams and her husband Mike all of FL; ten great-grandchildren, Sam Cash III and his wife Ana, Aspen Johnson and her husband Tyler, Madison Cash, Ty Maddox, Tenley Maddox, Nicholas McIlwee, Lauren Clodi and her husband Kyle, Jonah Fitzgerald, Aaron Williams and his wife Coral, and Daniel Williams; two great-great-grandchildren, Jett Clodi and Catalina Williams; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Those desiring, may pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Bethlehem United Methodist Church by Pastor Dave Boger.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kimberly Cash, Steven Maddox, Megan McIlwee, Jason McIlwee, Travis Smith, Aaron Shull, Jeff Back and Chris Miller.

Honorary Pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.

It is suggested, that those desiring make memorial contributions to Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 31, Swoope, VA 24479.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Pennie, Dale and Travis Smith, Shirley Back, Birch Gardens Assisted Living, Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, VA, and Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA.
