Hilda W. Turner
STAUNTON:
Hilda Maxine (Wilkes) Turner, 88, widow of Col. (Ret.) Herbert L. Turner formerly of 201 Burnley Drive passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in the Laurels of University Park in Henrico.
Mrs. Turner was born August 10, 1923 in Lynchburg, a daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Ethel (Crouch) Wilkes.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had resided in Staunton for the past thirty-four years. Hilda enjoyed gardening and the beauty of her daylilies and irises. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Lee, Clifford Odell, Maynard Carlton and Landon Gene Wilkes and two sisters, Eleanor
(Wilkes) Mullins and Bernice Wilkes.
Survivors include three sons, Barry L. Turner and his wife Betty and Randall L. Turner all of Staunton, Douglas L. Turner and Nancy Christian of Richmond; a daughter, Denise T. Clark of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Sean and Erik Turner, Shannon Turner Simpson and husband Mark, Jaime Turner, Ryan Turner, Trevor and Kara Hawkins; three great-grandchildren, Keegon, Kamaria and Jelani; two sisters, Helen W. Gibson and Marjorie W. St Clair of Roanoke also survive.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Temple D. Myers. The family will receive friends following the service.
A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 in the Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
