Obituary

Herbert Herb LePlatt, Jr., 71, husband of Kay LePlatt of Staunton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at his residence.
Mr. LePlatt was born on January 18, 1946 in Trinidad, Colorado, a son of the late Herbert, Sr. and Mabel (Baren) LePlatt.
Herb was raised in LaJunta, Colorado and graduated from LaJunta High School. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Waynesboro, where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the choir. He served twenty years in the United States Army, Colorado National Guard. Herb retired from NIBCO in 2005 with over forty years of service, rising to the position of Plant Operations Manager. Mr. LePlatt loved God, his wife and family, his country and was a true patriot. He enjoyed Mexican food, the Denver Broncos, and NASCAR especially watching his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt.
In addition to his parents, Mr. LePlatt was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Frybarger; a sister, Shirley Russell; a brother-in-law, Tony Harris; and his father-in-law, Bobby Harris.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kay, is a son, Herbert Eric LePlatt and his wife Melissa; two step-daughters, Kelly Blackwell and husband Arthur, and Carla McCray; a brother, Jack LePlatt; half-brother, Benny LePlatt; brother-in-law, B.I. Harris Simmons; sisters-in-law, Donna Hevener and Angie Bourbeau; ten grandchildren, Amber Haraden, Katie Frybarger, Andrew LePlatt, Patton LePlatt, Sheridan LePlatt, Asher LePlatt, Griffin LePlatt, Mackenzie Blackwell, Hunter Blackwell, and Tucker Blackwell; a great-granddaughter, Leila Haraden; a special niece, Nikki Swats; mother-in-law, Annie Harris; the mother of his children, Peggy LePlatt; son-in-law, Todd Frybarger; a special friend, Gene Trantham; and his pet companions, Harley, Molly, and Layla.
A Celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bill Cole and Pastor Joey Locklear. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park with military rites.
Active pallbearers will be Gene Trantham, Jeremy Cook, Jason Cook, Andrew LePlatt, Patton LePlatt, Ronnie Hahn, David Harris, and Steve Harris.
Honorary pallbearers are Scott Hevener, Arthur Blackwell, Wayne Bourbeau, Hunter Blackwell, Tucker Blackwell, Mackenzie Blackwell, and Sheridan LePlatt.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060 or the
American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, 1445 East Rio Road, Suite 104, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901.
