Henry 'Al' Smiley's Obituary
Henry Alfred Al Smiley, 75, husband of Doris Ann (Puckett) Smiley of 58 Seawright Springs Road passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr.. Smiley was born January 26, 1937 in Rockbridge Baths, a son of the late Henry Clay and Blanche Mabel (Allen) Smiley.
Mr. Smiley was a veteran of the United States Army and the National Guard. He was an avid race fan and racer at Eastside, Natural Bridge, the Devils Bowl and Craigsville Speedways. Al was employed as a printer at Schmids Printery and he enjoyed slot cars, NASCAR and spending time with his family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by a sister, Betty McCown.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth S. Libby Copeland and her husband David of Fort Chiswell; a sister-in-law, Shirley Sprouse and her husband Albert of Stuarts Draft and his pet cat and lap companion, Izzy.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Gary Hodges.
The family will receive friends following the service or at the residence at other times.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
