Henry "Herman" Richie, 89, husband of Evelyn (Hutchens) Richie of Fairfield, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Richie was born in Rockbridge County on October 27, 1932, a son of the late Hubert Richie and Clara Bell (Smiley) Richie.
Herman was a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve. He was a life member of the Old Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where he was an elder for 60 years and sang in the church choir for 72 years. He sang in the Keys Quartet and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Richie was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Richie and his wife Pearlene.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 66 years, is a son, Randy Richie of Fairfield; a daughter, Sarah Richie Dagenhart (Barry) of Rock Hill, SC; three grandchildren, Lance Richie (Holly), Jamey Dagenhart (Tiffany), and Rachel D. Kirby (Tyler); four great-grandchildren, Parker, Caleb, and Graham Dagenhart and Emma Kirby; a nephew, Chuck Richie (Rhonda); and three nieces, Debbie Mynes (Buck), Tammy McKibben (Rick), and Linda Richie.
A service of worship will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Old Providence ARP Church by the Rev. Dr. J. Barry Dagenhart and Mr. James MacDougall.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at the residence at other times.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be J.B. Cash, Brad Worley, Lenny Phillips, Dean Lunsford, Scott Earhart, and Rick McKibben.
Honorary pallbearer will be Sam Topping.
Memorials may be made to the Old Providence ARP Church organ fund, c/o Kay Buchanan, 1005 Spottswood Road, Spottswood, VA 24476.
The family would like to express a sincere "Thank you" to Dr. Rob Marsh, the staff of Augusta Health, Home Health Care nurse, Pam Worley and the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for the care shown to Mr. Richie.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
