Helen Christine (Rexrode) Johnson, 83, widow of Thomas Edward "Chink" Johnson of Straith Street, where her grandson, Ryan Moats also lived and took care of her, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Staunton, Virginia on February 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Alvie and Ella (Arbaugh) Rexrode.

Helen moved back to Staunton in1968 from Georgia, she was a member of the Brethren Church, and retired from GENESCO.

In addition to her husband of sixty-three years and parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Rexrode and a sister, Mary Alice Fitzgerald.

Surviving are three sons, David Burton Johnson and his wife, Connie of Clinton, Utah, Douglas Edward Johnson and his wife, Carol Sue of Stuarts Draft, and Daniel Eugene Johnson and his wife, Marcia of Palmyra, Virginia; two daughters, Linda Elaine (Johnson) Hutson and her husband, Gary and Lori J. Johnson and her fianc, Timothy Savage, all of Staunton; thirteen grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, James Johnson, Jennifer Rolfsness, Zackary Hutson, Jacob Hutson, Mary Ann (Johnson) Long, Thomas Johnson, Ryan Moats, Mallory Moats, Nicole Geary, Natasha Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, and Christa Newton; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Byrd and Barbara Lambert and her husband, Delmar; brother-in-law, Grover C. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn; a sister-in-law, Janice Johnson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Mr. David B. Johnson and Miss Lori J. Johnson.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
