Helen C. Lipsky, 88, of Waynesboro, Virginia passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at her home, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Lipsky was born on April 15, 1937, the daughter of the late Dewey L. and Jesse R. Coffey.
Helen dedicated many years of her life to serving Waynesboro and Augusta County as an obstetrical nurse, spending her entire career as a compassionate and devoted registered nurse.
She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church in Waynesboro.
Helen found joy in working in her yard, playing cards, and participating in bingo. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whether at home or cheering them on at sporting events.
Preceding her in death was her husband, William “Bill” Lipsky; a son, Barry D. Carey; a sister, Janet Rutherford; three brothers, Dewey Coffey, Jr., Peter Coffey, and Donald Coffey; a step-daughter, Stephanie Campbell; and step-daughter-in-law, Renee Lipsky.
Surviving, is her son, Brian Carey and his wife, Robin of Waynesboro; step-son, Michael Lipsky; step-daughter, Marlene Weaver and her husband, Jimmy; two grandchildren, Rachel Kincaid and her husband, Travis and Ben Carey and his wife, Megan; three step-grandchildren, Ryan and Corey Lipskey, and Christopher Weaver. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Lydia, and Helen Kincaid and Kandon Carey with a fifth due in May. Also surviving, is her sister-in-law, Judy Coffey. She was part of a large extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, step-great-grandchildren, and cousins. Helen also leaves behind her close friend and travel partner, Judy Tomey, along with other special friends, classmates, and nursing colleagues.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Ben Carey, Travis Kincaid, Brad Pangle, Mike Yancey, Whitt Coffey, and Thomas Dindinger.
It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to Augusta Health Foundation, c/o Hospice of the Shenandoah, P. O. Box 1000, Fishersville, Virginia 22939 or First Christian Church, 241 N. Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to her special caregivers, Bonnie Craig and Kim Kincaid, the staff at Hospice of the Shenandoah, and many dear family members and special nurse friends.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
