Obituary

Mr. Johnson was born on June 17, 1925 in Augusta County, a son of the late James Edward and Mary Jane (Strickler) Johnson.
Harry was an active member of Linden Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a trustee and a member of the Job Sunday School Class. He retired from American Safety Razor after thirty-two of service and served his country for three years of active duty in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Johnson enjoyed gardening, watching westerns, baseball, dancing, painting, auctions, visiting shut-ins and his friends whom he cherished. Mr. Johnson loved his Lord and shared his faith with others, he was a man that did not like praise, but set an example on how to live life and love each other.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Edward Johnson, Jr. and William Johnson; sisters, Miss Hattie Bell, Miss Marjorie Bell, Mrs. Luther (Maggie) Spitler, Mrs. James (Mary) Jarvis, Mrs. Frank (Shirley) Hall, and Mrs. Morris (Eva) Cook.
Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-eight years, is a daughter, Cynthia Johnson Rudin and husband Mike of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Layla Reid and husband Wil of Staunton and Karla Clark and husband Alex of Stuarts Draft; eight great-grandchildren, Lexi, Wilson, Jackson, Ella, Glady Belle, Madison, Hannah, and Alex; two brothers, Mr. Voynt Johnson and Mr. Frank Johnson; a sister, Mrs. Larry (Helen) Smith; a brother-in-law, Mr. Frank Hall; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Linden Heights Baptist Church by Pastors Luke B. Smith and David Anderson.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Boyd (Buck) Brown, Jimmy Gunter, Richard Zimmerman, Rodney Thomas Sensabaugh, Jr., Weldon Sensabaugh, Hansford Johnson, and Lou Manhart.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Job Sunday School Class at Linden Heights Baptist Church.
The family would like to express a special Thank You to Dr. John Rob Marsh, his practice and to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their endless care and kindness to Mr. Johnson.
