Harry Elbert Helmick, Sr. 87, widower of Ann Grandall (Sprouse) Helmick of 1612 Ohio Street, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his residence.
Mr. Helmick was born on April 7, 1930 in Blue Grass, Virginia, a son of the late Don Elbert and Vergie Blanche (Puffenbarger) Helmick.
Harry was a member of the Waynesboro Salvation Army, and retired from Wilson Trucking where he was employed as a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, shooting pool and an avid NASCAR fan.
Surviving is a son, Harry E. Helmick, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Tammy E. Helmick of Waynesboro and Linda A. Simmons of Crozet; a brother, Don Helmick of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and many special friends and caregivers.
A Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 in the Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro by Rev. Ray Fisher.
The family wishes to express a special Thank You to the Augusta Health Hospice Nurse, Cheri Jones for her love and compassion given to Mr. Helmick during his illness.
