Harry Eugene Gene Mizer, 72, of 403 Glebe School Road, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Mizer was born December 5, 1941 in Staunton, a son
of the late Harry C. and Helen (Groah) Mizer.
Gene was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Windy Hill Hunt Club and the NRA. Mr. Mizer retired in 2000
from DuPont with over thirty years of service as an Operator in the Power House. Gene was an avid hunter, fisherman and NASCAR
fan of Jeff Gordon. He previously served as a Reserve on the
Staunton City Police Department and he loved spending time and running around with his grandson, Tyler.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mizer was preceded in death
by his special pet dog and companion, JR.
Mr. Mizer was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Surviving are three children; Timothy E. Tim Mizer and his wife Lisa of Verona, Sherri A. (Mizer) Langford of Lawton, OK and Scott Mizer and his wife Tianna of Lexington; four grandchildren, Thomas Langford, Michael Langford, Samuel Langford and Tyler Mizer; step-children; Missy Howdyshell and her fianc Ernie Tackett of Stuarts Draft, Tarp Howdyshell of Mint Spring and Michael Howdyshell of Middlebrook; step-grandchildren; Matthew Arey, Natasha Williams, and Aaron, B.J. and Shelby Howdyshell.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Robert A. Edwards.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro.
