Harold A. Putnam
STAUNTON:
Harold Augustus Poppy Putnam, 72, husband of Hilaria Lala (Morales) Putnam of 586 Frog Pond Road passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Mr. Putnam was born in Augusta County on October 19, 1939, a son of the late Ernest Jasper and Josephine (Bailey) Putnam.
Harold was retired from the US Navy, where he served his country proudly for 20 years serving with four tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a car salesman for Waynesboro Sales, Harner Wheels, Paul Obaugh, Lou Ziegler and most recently Hartman Dodge for 18 years. Mr. Putnam enjoyed going to auctions and gun shows. Harold was one that could fix anything and he enjoyed spending time with his family which was a very important part of his life. Mr. Putnam was sick for quite some time and suffered with much pain. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Putnam was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest J. Putnam and Richard Lee Putnam, a sister, Hilda Thomas, and a beloved granddaughter Evanne Coffman.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 52 years, is a son, Howard E. Putnam and his wife Jeanne of Staunton; a daughter, Chris A. McAndrew and her fianc Doug Kyger of Middletown; four grandchildren, Courtney ElGhoul and her husband Khalil of Fairfax; Jarrod Coffman and his wife Lisa of Craigsville; Jordan Coffman of Verona; Austin Putnam of Staunton; three great-grandchildren, Delanie, Aidan, and Cole Coffman; a number of nieces, nephews and also Harolds special pet cat Ponchee.
A Memorial service will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Herring.
The family will receive friends following the service and at other times the residence.
It is suggested memorial contributions be made to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 2600 Virginia Avenue NW, Suite 104, Washington, D.C. 20037
