Harold Reed Harvey's Obituary

Harold Reed Harvey, 94, of the Legacy of Staunton and formerly of Arvonia, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Kings Daughters Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Harvey was born May 29, 1919 in Hinton, West Virginia, a son of the late Bryan and Lessie (Noble) Harvey.

Harold retired in 1981 from Virginia Power as a Machinist. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army as a Technical Sergeant, receiving an Honorable Discharge with two Purple Heart Medals, the Gold Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Medal, and a Bronze Star. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the Stonewall Masonic Lodge #200 in Arvonia. Mr. Harvey liked to hunt, fish, woodworking and he enjoyed making walking canes for his friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine (Blankenship) Harvey and his second wife, Evelyn (Snoddy) Harvey; five brothers, Jennings B. Harvey, Donald D. Harvey, Bill Harvey, Robert N. Harvey and Franklin Harvey; and three sisters, Dorothy H. Wade, Arline H. Wood and Pauline Harvey.

Surviving are three sisters, Phyllis H. Porter and husband Dennis of Staunton, Erma H. Lewis and husband Bud of Midland, and Marie H. Browning and husband Earl of Hume; a special friend, Stuart Webster; a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Arvonia Community Cemetery, 239 Morgans Hill Road, Arvonia by Pastor Steven P. Donahue with Military and Masonic rites.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Post Office Box 89, Arvonia, VA 23004.
