Grover Clark "Corkie" Collie, Jr.'s Obituary
Grover Clark (Corkie) Collie, Jr. passed into the care of our Lord, Jesus Christ, May 13, 2021 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville VA.
He was born in Newport News VA December 16, 1942 to Grover C. Collie, Sr. and Virginia Ashburn Collie who preceded him in death.
Corkie graduated from Warwick High School in 1960, graduated from the NASA Apprentice School in 1967; and retired from the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown VA as a mid-line supervisor in the Ordnance Department in 1995.
He loved volunteering with youth as a Cub Master, and coached boys and girls' county basketball. He served in many church activities, was an enthusiastic Mustang owner and past member of the Valley Mustangs Unlimited Car Club, volunteered at Augusta Health, was a
stained-glass artist, and enjoyed performing on the saxophone at local retirement centers and churches.
Corkie is survived by his wife June Veneris Collie; son Jeff Collie and wife Renee of Johnson City TN; daughter Jenna Collie Von Moos and husband Steve Von Moos of West Augusta VA; grandchildren Troy Von Moos and fianc Liz Bruckno of Staunton VA, Gabby Von Moos Moore
and husband Tim of Verona VA, granddaughter Eileen Collie-Martin and husband Kyle of Pittsburgh PA, grandson Hank Collie and wife Hannah of Jonesborough TN, and Sam Collie of Johnson City TN. He is also survived by his sister Judi Collie Stafford and husband Carl of Keaau HI, aunt Dot Ashburn of Wake VA and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Verona United Methodist Church in Verona VA, May 29th at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Bob Weeks.
Special thanks is given to the staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their kindness and care in recent weeks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Verona United Methodist Church PO Box 47 Verona VA 24482, or Verona Community Center PO Box 780 Verona VA 24482, or UVA Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center 1240 Lee St Charlottesville VA 22903.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
