Gregory Lee Peck Shackelford, 71, husband of Joan Clatterbaugh Shackelford of 264 Skyview Circle, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017,

in the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Mr. Shackelford was born on July 14, 1946, in Harrisonburg, a son of the late Earl Woodrow and Ina Kathleen (Armentrout) Shackelford.

Peck was a member of the Verona United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving with the Presidential Honor Guard. He brought joy and laughter to others wherever he went.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by an infant son, Tracy Scott Shackelford; and a special great nephew, Joshua Scott Josh Shackelford.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Nicholas Todd Shackelford; two grandchildren, Dillon and Chloe Shackelford; a brother, Stan Shackelford and wife Brenda; aunt, Ellen Armentrout; two nephews, Jeff Shackelford and Chris Shackelford; a special great niece, Brooke Weeks; and his favorite cookie baker, Sherry Cox.

A Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Scott Duffey. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), 120 Wall Street, 29th Floor, New York, New York 10005 for the Greater Augusta Out of the Darkness Community Walk at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton.
