Gladys Lee (Smith) Fockler, 88, widow of Howard Franklin Fockler of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 in Brookdale Assisted Living in Staunton.

Mrs. Fockler was born in Highland County, Virginia on September 9, 1934, a daughter of the late Isaac C. Smith and Rosie (Puffenbarger) Smith.

Gladys was an active member of Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church and was retired from Terry Court Drug Store .  She enjoyed visiting with her church friends, was an avid Statler Brothers fan and she, together with her late husband, enjoyed decorating their yard for all holiday occasions for those who passed by to enjoy.

In addition to her parents and husband of fifty-eight years, Mrs. Fockler was preceded in death by four brothers, Rankin Smith, Wilmer Smith, Lou Smith and Jack Smith; and two sisters, Margie O'Brien and Elizabeth Painter.

Mrs. Fockler was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 in Oaklawn Memory Gardens by Pastor Phyllis Diamond.

It is suggested that those desiring make memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
