Gertrude "Judy" (Peters) Widener, 79, widow of Herbert "Herb" Widener of 41 Shutterlee Mill Lane, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Widener was born on August 22, 1939 in Goshen, a daughter of the late Charles Harry and Emma Maycell (Harper) Peters.
Judy was a very active member of the Elk Run Church of the Brethren, a member of the Women's Fellowship program, a homemaker, and she enjoyed writing poetry.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Widener was preceded in death by three sisters, Nellie LeMaster, Lilly Altizer and Ella Mae Warren; two brothers, James Paul Peters and Charles Thomas Peters; a step-son, Greg Widener and step-daughter, Sherry (Widener) Ysais.
Surviving is a daughter, Robyn L. Burke of Staunton; two sisters, Mary Alice Meharg of Cerritos, California and Lucy Pederson of Swoope; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Desper Peters; an adopted son, Keith Morris; an adopted granddaughter, Heather Morris; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2018 in the Elk Run Church of the Brethren by Pastor Kathy Puffenbarger.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.
Burial will be private in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.

The family extends a special "THANK YOU" to Barry and Katrina Munsey for their love, kindness, and care during Judy's illness.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
