Georgia Leona (Widener) Holmes of Kernersville, NC and formerly of Waynesboro, VA was welcomed by Jesus to her heavenly home on Friday, May 13, 2022. She was born November 20, 1932 in Washington County, VA to the late William Porter Widener and Effie Spriggs Widener.

She was a member of Waynesboro Wesleyan Church for 56 years, serving as Sunday School Secretary for more than 40 years.

In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Grant Holmes; sons, Daryll Holmes, and Samuel "Sam" Holmes and his wife, Alice "Flookey."

She is survived by four sons, Robert "Bobby" (Yvonne), William "Randy" (Melody), Dennis (Theresa), Steve (Iris Anne); and one daughter, Sandy (Don). Her pride and joy were her seventeen grandchildren and her twenty-four great grandchildren. Georgia is also survived by her siblings, Fred Widener (Lydia), Edgar Widener (Mary), and Madgie Hale; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend Doris Wilson.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, VA 24401 with Rev. Donald Ray Martin and Rev. Philip Matthew Martin officiating.

Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, VA. The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

In honor of their loving grandmother, Georgia's grandsons will be serving as pallbearers, and her granddaughters will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
