Genevieve (Kastner) Opalka
STAUNTON:
Genevieve (Kastner) Opalka, 86 of 606 Cherry Hill Drive, Staunton, and widow Feliks Opalka, Sr. passed away Monday, (September 29, 2008) at her residence.
Mrs. Opalka was born April 22, 1922 in Laufen Obb, West Germany, a daughter of the late Sebastian and Maria (Nettermuler) Kastner.
During the WWII, Mrs. Opalka served in the Red Cross as a nurse, and in 1950, she and her husband settled to Chicago from Germany. She later was employed in the snack bar at K-Mart.
Surviving is a son, Felix Opalka, Jr. and his wife Linda of Ottawa, Illinois; a daughter, Barbara M. (Opalka) Ralston and her husband Kenneth E., Sr. of Staunton; a sister Maria Braunder of Germany; four grandchildren; Jennifer Chrysta Brozman, Kevin All Opalka, Jeremy Michael Ralston and Kenneth Edward Ralston, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren Kevin and Nicole Opalka also survive.
The family will receive friends this evening from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Coffman Funeral Home and at other times the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Ralston, 606 Cherry Hill Drive.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, (October 3, 2008) in the Maryhill Cemetery and Mausoleum, in Niles, Illinois.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of the arrangements.
