Gayle Lorene (White) Meeks, 73, widow of Jerry Winston Meeks of Verona passed away Monday, January 27, 2020 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Mrs. Meeks was born in Staunton on September 2, 1946 the daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Ruth Frances (Mynes) White.

Gayle was a member of Verona United Methodist Church and was involved in the Rebekah Circle and the United Methodist Women's Group. She was a life member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA), Virginia State Past President of ESA, and an active member of Beta Omicron. Gayle enjoyed vacationing with her family in Emerald Isle.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gayle was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald White and his wife Ethel.

Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Thornton and her husband John "Buck" of Fort Defiance; a brother, George Lynn White and his wife Martha of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Dylan and Colton Thornton; and a nephew, two nieces, two great-nephews, and one great-niece.

A Celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2020 in Verona United Methodist Church by Pastor Bob Weeks.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
