Gary Melvin Chandler, 63 of 3059 Parkersburg Turnpike passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Chandler was born June 8, 1947 in Staunton a son of the late Hugh Chandler and Mary E. (Michael) Chandler Milstead.
Gary was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Ray Carr Tire in Harrisonburg for six years, he was a member of the Staunton-Augusta Izaak Walton League, a life member of North America Hunting Club and the NRA. Gary enjoyed hunting and attending sportsman and gun shows.
In addition to his father, Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by a brother Ronnie Chandler.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Swoope with whom he made his home is a daughter, Tammy D. Chandler of Louisa; a brother and sister-in-law, Nolen L. Butch Chandler and wife Jean of Staunton; a special cousin and his wife, Larry and Agnes Helmick; close and special friends, Jerry Campbell, Donnie Smith and Robbie Fielding; one niece and three nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010 in Augusta Memorial Park by Chaplain Mark Westebbe.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
Active pallbearers will be Donnie Smith, Larry Helmick, Robbie Fielding, George Williams, Jarred Chandler, Tracy Chandler, Troy L. Tinnell, Gary Connor, Darren Crosier, Jimmy Smith and Nolen L. Chandler, Jr.
It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, 64 Sports Medicine Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
