Garrett Billmyer Garry Van Metre, 79, husband of Mona Jean (Nutty) Van Metre of 684 Gloria Place, Staunton passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Van Metre was born on October 20, 1936 in Martinsburg, WV, a son of the late Garrett Billmyer, II and Catherine Virginia (Rimel) Van Metre.
Garry was an active member and elder of the Third Presbyterian Church and retired as a self-employed truck driver for over forty-four years. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (Staunton Waynesboro Region) and he enjoyed attending antique car shows.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Van Metre was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Libby (Nutty) Smith and a niece, Mona Harmon.
Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty years, is his sister-in-law, Sue (Nutty) Wagner and her husband Don of Staunton; three nieces, Kim Galloway, Brooke McAllister and Denise Smith; two nephews, Mark Smith and Ryan Kier; great nieces and nephews, Kaylee Harmon, Madison Harmon, Brayden Kier, Ashley Galloway and Tiffany Galloway also survive.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2016 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 in Thornrose Cemetery after which a Celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. in the Third Presbyterian Church by Pastor Harry E. Johns, Jr.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Smith, Richard Dickerson, Boyd Snyder, Don Galloway, Benny Whitesell, Charles Mauzy, and Jeff McDaniel.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Envoy for the care given to Mr. Van Metre.
