French was a man who had an boundless zest for living. He loved his family immensely. His unfailing generosity and limitless self-sacrifice for his family are well known. He rarely met a stranger and made friends easily, interested and talking of a vast array of subjects. He loved the outdoors and puttering about in his yard with his gardens and flowers. Frenchie enjoyed pursuits to include sports: Basketball, Football, and Baseball. Visiting with friends stopping by, nature and gardening, birds and critters, and having family over to partake of great cooking and taking rides to enjoy the rhododendron and mountain laurel blooming in Watoga State Park, WV, Canaan Valley, WV; Lake Moomaw, VA to visit family and friends camping and picnicing. He had a lifelong love of books and the printed word, from the comics of his youth to the lastest western, thriller, or mystery. Frenchies simple pleasures and idea of relaxing were reading, vacationing with family and seafood feasts, searching for shells and watching dolphins on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, NC.
Frenchie was well traveled, having experienced Europe in his youth and to include the East Coast of the U.S. particularly Jekyll Island, Georgia and Marco Island, Florida and parts of the Mid-West with an awe for Palo Duro Canyon.

The family will receive immediate family and close friends at 158 Buffalo Gap Hwy Churchville, VA 24421 on April 16, 2011, from one to 4 p.m. with an informal meal served while stories and laughter are shared. Due to the huge circle of friends and relations, family requests instead of phoning that memories, photos, and condolences from out of state friends and family be sent to the above address or write a tribute on coffmanfuneralhome.net.

Thanks also go to the 1 East Surgical Ward Nurses, Debbie Miles for visiting, all of whom were top of the line and provided care and support to French and the family. In addition, Shenandoah House Staff and Volunteers should be thanked and recognized for providing French with such individualized care and making him comfortable and feel special and falling for his charming manners and with him, quite a group of women as French said: Carol Showalter, Ann, Crystal, Megean, Laura, Gail, Courtney, Katie, Terri, Mary Scott Miller, Debbie, Rita, Audrey, all of the Volunteers, and Darrell Estes and Chaplains Dave Cunningham and Mark Westebbe . There were no gaps. If we have forgotten to mention your name, you still helped fill the gaps so that there were none. Each of the above individuals should be recognized for treating Dad not just a patient, but also as the most wonderful Man and Daddy he was and the family is grateful for their skills, time, humor, understanding, and compassion during such a difficult time.
