Fred Lewis Shuey, Sr., 82, widower of Bessie Lee (Daugherty) Shuey passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Shuey was born in Augusta County on October 13, 1930, a son of the late James Armond and Lillian Ernestine (Riley) Shuey.
Mr. Shuey retired in 1985 from Smiths Transfer as a terminal manager after thirty-six years of service, he was active in state and local politics, was known as the family historian, loved storytelling, enjoyed riding around and watching his grandson Forrest play sports.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Shuey was preceded in death by a son, Fred Lewis Shuey, Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Ellen Shuey; and two brothers, James William Shuey and Billy Harris Shuey.
Survivors include a son, Jeffery F. A. Shuey and his wife Sarah of Staunton; three sisters, Ella Norine Smith of Lynchburg, Mary Bell Gibson and Lillian Ann Bailey both of Staunton; six grandchildren, Forrest Shuey, Amanda (Shuey) Dulgarov, Jake Shuey, Tonya Ferguson, Michelle (Ferguson) Snyder and Sgt. Travis Callison; two great grandchildren, Xavier Dulgarov and Caleb Snyder and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 in Thornrose Cemetery by Pastor JoAnn Bunn.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Shuey, Meade Shuey, Joe Harman, Sgt. Travis Callison, Sammy Shuey and Danny Shuey.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
