Frances (Gilmer) Gordon, 85, of Fort Defiance, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Gordon was born on February 15, 1929 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Ernest Edgar and Lillie (Moore) Gilmer.

On May 28, 1948, Mrs. Gordon married the late Buddy (Warren) Gordon of Fort Defiance. The home they established is where she lived her entire married life. In addition to being a farmers wife and homemaker, she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. Mrs. Gordon enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, cooking, and had a love of cats. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Gilmer, Louise Harlow and Mabel Miller.

Surviving family members include a son, Bud Gordon and wife Lisa of Fort Defiance; a daughter, Pam McAnally and husband Wes of Roanoke; four brothers, Junior Gilmer and wife Kathleen, George Gilmer and wife Shirley all of Staunton; Warren Gilmer and wife Barbara of Waynesboro and John Gilmer of Middlebrook; a sister, Betty G. Piner of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Meredith Campbell, Tyler Gordon and John Gordon and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery by Pastor John M. Ward.

The family would like to offer many thanks to Kathy Carson, Peggy Spechio and Jene`e Hymes for their care and companionship that allowed her to remain at home.
