Frances (Gibson) Fran Layman, 88, of Staunton was reunited with her beloved husband Russel E. Layman, Jr. on Friday, August 25, 2017.
Mrs. Layman was born on October 17, 1928 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lewis L., Sr. and Dorothy (Peyton) Gibson.
Frances was a member of the Loch Willow Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed her church family and the special music of the choir. Prior to her retirement she worked along beside her brother at Flowers by Jay. She enjoyed golfing in the evenings with her husband and was an avid Virginia Tech Hokies fan.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold E. Gibson and his wife Mary, Lewis L. Gibson, Jr. and Jay C. Gibson; a sister, Mildred (Gibson) Floyd; and a special brother-in-law, Denton Layman.
Aunt Fran was loved by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. They all loved spending time with her and have many fond memories of her as they were growing up. She watched over and supported them all. Her Sister-in-law, Virginia Layman and nieces, Cathy Sterrett and Ginny Craig were her helpmates in her later years. She kept a strong connection with her Ohio kids, Susie Weiss Carman, and Mike and Joe Brownfield.
A Graveside Service will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 in the Augusta Memorial Park by Pastor Reed Hopkins.
Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship in the Loch Willow Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Frans memory, to the Loch Willow Presbyterian Church Picnic Shelter Fund, 37 Buffalo Gap Highway, Churchville, Virginia 24421.
