Flora Beatrice (Bright) Knicely, 85, widow of Boyd Brandt Knicely of 93 Hudson Avenue passed away Friday, September 14, 2012 at her residence.
Mrs. Knicely was born August 12, 1927 in Deerfield, a daughter of the late Elmer Tazewell and Maggie (Riley) Bright.
Mrs. Knicely retired in 1982 from McQuay International (Westinghouse) where she was employed on the assembly line. She was a member of the First Church of God where she was very active with the Women of the Church of God. She was a Sunday school teacher of the Junior High Boys and Mrs. Knicely and her husband served as the youth leaders for many years. Flora enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling with her husband.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Knicely was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph J. Bright, Boyd Bright, Norman Bright and an infant brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan D. Knicely of Staunton and Judy K. Huffer and her husband Jerry of Mt. Solon; a son. Michael W. Knicely and his wife Beth of Boston, MA; three grandchildren, John David Huffer, Phillip Michael Knicely and his wife Katie and Alexandria Payne and her husband J.C.; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Payne and John Calvin Payne, III and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 in the First Church of God on Shutterlee Mill Road in Staunton by Pastor Donald D. Smmons.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Dwight Cason, Keith Brown, Steve Bright, Kevin Bright, Ronnie Saufley, Gary Kennedy, Robert Morris and Phillip Knicely.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Golden Deeds Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 in the First Church of God and the residence at other times.
