Ernest Mosby Pete Harris, 70, formerly of 5th Street, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Envoy of Staunton.
Mr. Harris was born on December 1, 1944 in Augusta County, a son of the late Daley Alfred Squeaky and Lucille Erma (Harris) Knight.
Pete retired in 1997 from the Virginia Department of Transportation, where he was employed as a truck driver and operator. He was a member of the Verona Moose Lodge #2172 and he enjoyed hunting, dancing and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa D. Tyree and two brothers, Clyde E. Harris and Russell E. Harris.
Surviving is a daughter, Dana L. Bryant and her friend, Nick Majercak of Evington; three brothers, Gary P. Knight of Grottoes, Larry L. Knight and his wife Gay of Crimora and Steve L. Knight and his friend Kathy Sprouse of Verona; three sisters, Shirley C. Glover of Craigsville, Gloria M. Wilson and her husband Richard of Swoope and Jane A. McDaniel and her husband Jeff of Verona; four grandchildren, Shania Bryant, Donnie Bryant, Brennan Tyree and Ethan Tyree; his companion, Carol Moran; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Harold Wade.
Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Eugene Stokes, Jimmy Glover, Harry Harris, Rodney Talley, Larry Hamilton, Jeff Hamilton and Ronnie Hepler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Harriss nieces and nephews attending the service.
