Ernest Clarence Ernie Anthony, 80, husband of Avis L. (Powers) Anthony of 1100 Maple Street passed away July 3, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Anthony was born in Augusta County on January 14, 1932, a son of the late Walter Lee and Georgia (Thomas) Anthony.
Mr. Anthony was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and a Sunday school teacher of the Fellowship Sunday school class. Ernie loved singing in the Sanctuary Choir and was very dedicated to his church. He was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
In addition to his wife of sixty years, survivors include three sons,
David Anthony and his wife Jo, Daniel Anthony and his wife Karen and Mark Anthony and his wife Suzy all of Staunton; a daughter, Patti Anthony of Staunton; four sisters, Lucille VanFossen of Staunton, Jo Penird of Columbus, OH, Betty Jones of TN and Jean Massey of Wake Forest, NC; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at Memorial Baptist Church by Pastor Temple D. Myers.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence.
