Enever Eugene Limerick's Obituary

Enever Eugene Sonny Limerick, 83, of Mt. Sidney and formerly of Fredericksburg, VA, husband of Doris (Pepper) Limerick, passed from this life on February 12, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on April 26, 1926 in Fredericksburg, VA a son of the late John Burgoyne Limerick and Lena Belle (Grady) Limerick.
Mr. Limerick was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Texas for three years. While on the Texas he was off the coast of Normandy on D-Day and also spent time in the Pacific campaign. Sonny served in the Korean conflict during his 11 years in the Navy as well.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a property manager for several large Real Estate Corporations in Washington, DC. He was a lifetime member of Fredericksburg Elks #875 and a current member of Staunton Elks #351. In 1970 he was awarded the Elks Distinguished Citizenship award after swimming across the icy Rappahannock River and rescued two teenage boys.
Sonny was an active sportsman all of his life, he was very competitive in archery and won the state championship in the instinctive field archery at Augusta Archers in 1959. He finished 8th in the nation at the Nationals at Grayling, Michigan. He was past president of the V.B.A. and a charter member of the Order of the Golden Feather. He hunted all over the world with bow and rifle and one of his favorites was geese and duck hunting, always getting his limit.
Boating and sailing were his passions. He spent many years traveling the Chesapeake Bay by sail and by power. He navigated all of the tributaries of the bay and traveled the Atlantic and Gulf Coast. In his later years after retiring, he spent time gardening and raising prize tomatoes.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Limerick was preceded in death by a brother, Everett K. Limerick.
Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty years, are two daughters, Susan L. McGee and her husband Gregory of Mt. Sidney and Crystal B. Limerick of Lyndhurst; two grandchildren, Lt. Commander J. Andrew Trout, U.S.N. and his wife Erica of Monterey, CA and Amy Elizabeth Trout of Bath County, VA and Merrimack, NH.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jeff Allen, Rev. Wade Munford and Rev. John L. Verberg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3702 Loren Drive, Fredericksburg, VA.
Active pallbearers will be Stuart C. Peyton, Raymond Rinaldo, Charles Pepper, Kenneth W. Limerick, Jeffrey Pepper, and Arthur H. Verberg.
It is suggested that those so desiring make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
