Elsie Wanda (Hodge) Leach Ward, of Stuarts Draft, passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, at her residence, at age 90.

Ms. Ward was born on November 2, 1931, in Bath County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Alvaretta "Betty" (Hodge) Shelton and stepdaughter of the late Julian F. Shelton. She was preceded in death by husbands, Donald E. Leach Sr. and Joseph H. Ward. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sheila Ann Leach.

Elsie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Healing Springs. She retired from The Homestead Hotel in Bath County. She enjoyed attending dances, crocheting, embroidery, coloring, and word search.

Elsie is survived by her sons, Rodney L. Leach and wife Carolyn of Stuarts Draft, Donald E. Leach and wife Doris of Staunton, and Jerry L. Leach of Staunton; a half-brother, Dan H. Shelton and wife Susie of Roanoke; a granddaughter, Angela Babb, her husband Jamie, and her children Kelci, Alexis, Madyson, and Kaylee Babb of Stuarts Draft whom Ms. Ward resided with. Other grandchildren include Jeremy (Karen) Leach, Jennifer Kane, Christopher (Gina) Leach, Bobby Leach, Scott Leach, Stephanie (Eric) Chisenhall, Gabrielle Leach, and Danielle (Adam) Tabor. She also has 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, an aunt, Beatrice Seaman in Detroit, Michigan, and a cousin, Patsy Bird of Bath County.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2022 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Jamie Babb, Chris Leach, Scott Leach, Ricky Hall, Mike Dove, and Zach Weaver.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
