Elma Kathleen Mikey (Folks) Michael, 97, of Stuarts Draft passed away, Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mrs. Michael was born October 24, 1914 in Highland County, a daughter of the late Clifton and Nola (Corbett) Folks.
On November 24, 1937, she married the late Ralph Siron Bill Michael who passed away in March of 1992.
Elma was a charter member of the Waynesboro Advent Christian Church. She was a homemaker and a great babysitter to all the neighborhood children and touched the lives of so many people. She never met a stranger and was a friend to all. Mrs. Michael enjoyed many vacations to the Smokey Mountains with Bobby and Yvonne Sorrells and their children.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Michael was preceded in death by four brothers, Ted, Lynn, Oral and Carl Folks.
Survivors include a sister, Judy Haake of Richmond and a number of nieces and nephews. Elma and Bill did not have children of their own but were grandparents to Bobby Lee Sorrells, Jr. and Lois Anne (Sorrells) Stogdale and her husband Ricky, as well as their children, Josh Sorrells, Cassandra Sorrells and Corey, Michael and Katie Stogdale. She loved for Nathan Sorrells to visit and brighten her day.
A celebration of her life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the Waynesboro Advent Christian Church by Pastor George Polhill.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence of Ricky and Lois Stogdale, 1550 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Sorrells, Corey Stogdale, Michael Stogdale, Troy Byers, Jody Byers and Larry King.
Honorary pallbearers are Cassandra Sorrells, Katie Stogdale, Victoria Rexrode and her caregivers.
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Waynesboro Advent Christian Church, 521 James Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980 or to Camp ACCOVAC, RR 1, Box 20-1, Millboro, VA 24460.
A special thank you to Elizabeth Bryant, Chris Hudson, Linda Fitzgerald and Rhonda Withrow for the wonderful care they gave to Elma when she needed it the most.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
