Elizabeth Irene (Simmons) Simmons, 88, widow of Raymond C. Simmons of 417 Grubert Avenue passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at her residence.
Mrs. Simmons was born on October 28, 1926 in Doe Hill, a daughter of the late William Albert and Lydia (Crummett) Simmons.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Staunton Church of the Brethren and retired from Genesco after twenty-five years of service as a seamstress. She enjoyed outdoor outings, camping, picnics, dancing and gardening with flowers.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Simmons; two sisters, Dorothy Hutchens and Catherine Sandy and five brothers, Jake, Joe, Darrell, Billy and Gary Simmons.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis E. Simmons and his wife Glenda of Staunton, Kenneth L. Simmons and his wife Diana of Butner, NC and Garry D. Simmons and his wife Mary of Stuarts Draft; a daughter, Sharon D. Simmons of Staunton; a brother, Larry D. Simmons of Churchville; four sisters, Myrtle Simmons and Charlotte McCray both of Staunton, Leoda Green and Carolyn Pullin and her husband Gib both of Churchville; eight grandchildren, Kirt, Aaron, Justin, Traci, Kevin, Kenny, Tanya and Wesley; twelve great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
A Celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Harold W. Pete Campbell.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin, Justin, and Aaron Simmons, Morgan Smith, Zachary Whitson and Carl King.
