Edward 'Ed' Neal Waalewyn's Obituary

Edward Neal Ed Waalewyn, 79, husband of Frankie Waalewyn, of 325 Betsy Bell Road, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 in Augusta Health, Fishersville.

Mr. Waalewyn born in Charlottesville on August 24, 1934, a son of the late Henry Nicholas and Dorothy (Jessup) Waalewyn.

Ed was an active and dedicated member of Third Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was a member of the Covenant Fellowship Sunday School class, active in the Mens groups and helped to cook in the church kitchen. Ed was a proud veteran of the United States Army, was owner-operator of the Middlebrook Avenue Phillips 66 Station and he drove for C.A.T.S. for several years. Ed loved his family, liked to fish, was a history buff, especially the civil war. Mr. Waalewyns desire was to give and care for those in need and less fortunate, whether it be monetary or of himself.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Waalewyn was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ethel (Maupin) Waalewyn.

Surviving in addition to his wife of forty-five years, are two daughters, Rebecca Becky Waalewyn-Traylor of Raphine and Michelle Marie Waalewyn-Peck and her husband Shawn of Richmond; a brother, Henry Neal Waalewyn and his wife Pat of Richmond; a sister, Kay Wittenaur and her husband Gary of Brick, NJ; four grandchildren, Brandon Traylor and his wife Chandra, Ben Traylor, Sarah Peck and Evan Peck; a great-granddaughter, Sahara Traylor; and a number of nieces, nephews and many close friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.

A Memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Third Presbyterian Church by Pastor Jack B. Wilkers.

Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mac Robertson, Tommy Ralston, Boyd Snyder and members of the Covenant Fellowship Sunday School class.

It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, VA 24401.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
