Edward P. Gilbert

Edward Preston Gilbert, 71, formerly of New Hope Road, Staunton, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Central Virginia Training Center, Madison Heights, Virginia where he had been a resident since childhood.
Mr. Gilbert was born June 15, 1938 in Staunton, a son of the late Thomas Preston and Clara Belle (Argenbright) Gilbert.
Edward was a member of Second Presbyterian Church; he enjoyed visiting his family and many friends at the Training Center and watching NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Cornelious Baxter Gilbert. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Margaret Gilbert of Pensacola, FL; three cousins, Buddy G. Hutchens and his wife Kathy of Staunton, Eddie Hutchens and his wife Joan of Broadway, VA and Billy Argenbright of Philadelphia, PA; a nephew, David G. Gilbert of Lillian, AL; a niece, Debra A. Gilbert of Pensacola, FL.; Mike Woolums and the many care-givers and friends at the Central Virginia Training Center in Lynchburg.
A celebration of Edwards life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 in the Coffman Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Joseph C. Brandon.
Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Buddy G. and Kathy Hutchens, 2408 Springhill Road, Staunton at any time.
