Edward Cline "Eddie" Thompson, Sr. 76, husband of Patricia M. "Patsy" (Staton) Thompson, of 204 Thomas Street, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Thompson was born on January 2, 1942 in Staunton, a son of the late Royce Thompson and Imogene (Gutshall) Almarode.
Edward was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church, and a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard where he served as an instructor and he was a Navy Seal in the United States Navy. Mr. Thompson was a life member of the VFW Post 2216 and he held a 10th degree black belt in martial arts and he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his many riding buddies.
In addition to his wife of 27 years is a son, Edward Thompson, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Crimora; three daughters, Christine Bussard of Staunton, Lyn Hart and her husband Dennis of Mt. Sidney, and Glenda Sheffer of Staunton; a step-son, Joseph A. Sheffer of Verona; a brother, John Bright of Love, Virginia; a sister, Debbie Harris and her husband Jim of Staunton; a special granddaughter, Tricia Smith and seven additional grandchildren; and a special great-grandson, Jake Coffey-Smith and ten additional great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Harold W. "Pete" Campbell.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Don Hammer, Benny Rankin, Keith Maddox, Dennis Hart, John Smith, and Wade Staton.
Honorary pallbearers will be his "motorcycle buddies."
It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of his arrangements.
