Obituary

Edward Baskerville Carter, Jr., 88, husband of Georgia (Fortney) Carter, of Hewitt Road in Swoope, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.

Mr. Carter was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on January 3, 1934, a son of the late Edward Baskerville Sr. and Viola (Barfield) Carter.

Mr. Carter was a retired veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Staff Sergeant. He was a MP in the Army National Guard and a marksman. Mr. Carter was a licensed pilot and enjoyed traveling to Air Shows. He gave his heart to the Lord on February 6, 2022 and attended Olivet Presbyterian Church.  Mr. Carter was also a member of Waynesboro VFW Post 2424.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Newlen.

Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty-five years, are four daughters, Mildred Ann Davis and her husband Kiger of Staunton, Patricia Elaine "Patty" Lohrey and her husband Marty of Raphine, Angela Dawn Leach and her husband Ray of Fishersville and Shearon June Humphreys and her husband Tommy of Craigsville; six grandchildren, Troy, Brandy, Joe, Candi, Cody, and Nikki; eight great grandchildren, Haley, Chloe, Noah, Sam, Ian, Carter, Ashby and Reid; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 in Olivet Presbyterian Church by Pastor Lee Thomas.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private in Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Kiger Davis, Marty Lohrey, Ray Leach, Tommy Humphreys, grandson, Troy Davis and Pastor Lee Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren.

Mr. Carter will be forever remembered by his wife and daughters for his service to his country and his amazing work ethic that he passed on to his daughters.
