Obituary

Edith Mae (Spurling) Dreher, 98, of Fishersville, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab in Fishersville.

Ms. Dreher was born in Rochester, New York on May 24, 1924, the daughter of the late George A. Spurling and Myrtle (Johnson) Spurling.

A member of 7 th Day Adventist Church, she was a firm believer in God and has now gone home. Edith was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in 1945, which was one of the first groups out of Norfolk. Ms. Dreher was employed as a cross-country truck driver, carrying "shotgun" loads for the government. She lived in Africa and all over the United States, finally coming back and settling in Virginia. She enjoyed volunteering for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and was loved by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Dreher was preceded in death by her former spouses, Robert Dreher of Joplin, MO and Frank J. Sholes of Lyndhurst, VA and a son, Steven W. Sholes of Little Rock, AR.

Surviving, is a daughter, Debra Lee Eckard and her husband, Woody of Fishersville, VA and a grandson, Brian Moats.

The family will receive friends at any time at the residence of her daughter, Debra.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
