EDITH ROMELDA GILBERT
Edith Romelda (Edie) Gilbert, 82, of Stuarts Draft, widow of Freddie Irvin Gilbert went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
She was born August 15, 1930, in Buena Vista, Virginia, daughter of the late Cosby Warner Davis and Annie Holt Davis.
After her husbands death five years ago, she moved from Buena Vista to live with her daughters. Prior to retirement, she was employed for over 25 years by Smiths Transfer, Verona.
Edith was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. Family was an important part of her life and she generously gave of herself to her family and others. Her greatest joy was spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had
a kind word to say to everyone and was a warm and loving person. To all of the grandchildren, there will never be anyone like Granny Gilbert in their eyes. Her life was a testimony to the love of Christ and our family is grateful for all of the wonderful years that God granted us in sharing in her life.
Family members left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Patricia Hartsook and her husband George of Stuarts Draft and Darlene Yeago and her husband Scott of Staunton; grandchildren, Matthew Hartsook and his wife Heather, Jeremy Yeago and his wife Michelle, Ryan Hartsook and his wife Lisa, Ashley Brown and her husband Eric, and Jordan Long and her husband Brad; great grandchildren, Hannah, Alex and Ethan Hartsook, Haileigh Yeago, Brendon Brown, and Ace and Jake Long; two sisters-in-law, Emma Cash and Katie Austin, and a special nephew, Bobby Austin and his wife Brenda and daughter Lana. In addition, Edith was loved by special friends of her daughters, Kay Dunaway, Beverley Wright, and Pam Mitchell. She was also loved by a precious friend, Mabel Napier, who she met in the nursing home during her stay.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, 105 Garland Drive, Staunton.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton.
