Edith Marie (Gordon) Bennett, 67, wife of Harold G. Bobby Bennett of 229 Montgomery Road went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 28, 2010 in University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mrs. Bennett was born November 2, 1942 in Annapolis, Maryland, a daughter of the late Gilbert Franklin Gordon and Frances (Hartigan) Gordon Lotts.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her step-father, Ray Lotts of Christiansburg
Edith was employed with Augusta Health as a patient care assistant until her retirement and worked many years at the DeJarnett Center.
She was a member of Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren and was a dedicated member over the years and sang in the church choir. She was a very talented musician who was blessed to play her Grand piano by ear and she also played the harmonica. Edith enjoyed weekend outings of fishing with her husband and family and was a dear, selfless, kind-hearted woman who loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, Edith is survived by three sons, Harold Nathaniel Bennett of Staunton and Jeffrey David Bennett and his fiance Mary Lam of Waynesboro and Michael Bennett and his fiance Sandy Michael of Staunton; a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Kathy B. Curry and her husband Trey of Staunton; a sister, Mary Gordon Fitzgerald of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Gilbert Gordon and his wife Jane of Christiansburg; seven grandchildren, Kenneth, Travis and Randy Bennett, Quade Curry, Michael Mike Bennett, Jr. and Destiny and Christian; two half-brothers, Clarence and Ronald Gordon; Step-mother, Mrs. Marie Caine all of Buckeye, WVA; several close nieces and nephews and a dear family friend, Joan Young.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2010 in Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Temple D. Myers.
Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 in the funeral home and at other times the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Trey Curry, 303 Cardinal Street, Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be Trey Curry, Mark Protil, Scott Langston, Daniel Gregory, Harold Daniel Crawford, Sr. and Harold Daniel Crawford, Jr.
