Earl Edward Harris, Jr., 93, widower of Peggy Ann (Carter) Harris
formerly of Staunton, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 in Waynesboro.
Mr. Harris was born on November 2, 1923 in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Earl Edward, Sr. and Myrtle Virginia (Queen) Harris.
Earl served in the United States Army, serving in the Air Corps during World War II, he was retired from Smiths Transfer after thirty years as a truck driver and was a dispatcher for the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad for twenty-seven years. Mr. Harris was a life member of the Staunton Augusta VFW Post 2216 and the Shendale Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time traveling and in his spare time he volunteered as an engineer on the Gypsy Express in Gypsy Hill Park.
In addition to his parents and wife of seventy-four years, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a brother, Frank W. Harris; and two sisters, Margaret (Harris) Conner and Laura Virginia Harris.
Surviving is a son, Mike Harris and his wife Lucy of Waynesboro; a daughter, Judith K. Stoher; a brother, Daniel F. Harris of Staunton; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren also survive.
A Graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road in Amelia, Virginia by Rev. William Bill Trice with military rites provided by the United States Army.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at the VFW Post 2216.
