Earl Gilliam "E.G." Coiner, Jr., 69, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home in Staunton.
E.G. was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on September 26, 1955, son of the late Earl Gilliam Coiner and Rachel Abilene (Anderson) Coiner.
E.G. was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1973-1984.
E.G. was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He joined during his time in boot camp in Illinois. He was a member of many congregations throughout his time in the Navy, but has been a part of the Staunton congregation since 1984. It was during his station in Charleston, South Carolina that he met and married his beautiful wife, Janet Rayenel Bunn on October 1, 1976. He loved his time in the Navy, but was medically discharged in 1984. He had several other jobs throughout his life, but his favorites were ComSonics in Harrisonburg and Augusta Health as an electronics technician in the maintenance department.
In addition to his parents, E.G. was preceded in death by his dear sisters, Emily Simmons, Brenda Sly, Yvonne "Bonnie" Coiner, and Mary Coiner. He also had three "angel baby" grandchildren – Samuel, Mary, and Alma – who he is now with.
Surviving, are his wife of 49 years, Janet Rayenel (Bunn) Coiner; four children, Joshua (Sarah) Coiner, Rebekah (Jacob) Jaskolka, Sarah (Erix) Lagos, and Micah (Patty) Coiner all of Staunton, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, Garner, Maggie, and Alice Coiner, Jane, Jillian, and Joseph Jaskolka, Amulek, Daniel, Moses, and Noemi Lagos, Magnolia, and Easton Coiner; a sister, Debbie Moore of Staunton; two brothers-in-law, Carl "Buck" Simmons and Larry Bunn both of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Ramona Bunn of Staunton; and nine cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waynesboro, Virginia 2825 Jefferson Lane.
The family will receive family and friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the church.
